‘CHANGING THE WORLD THROUGH FOOD’ ESSAY AND ART CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES

1. Eligibility

'Changing the World Through Food' Essay and Art Contest (“the Contest”) is open to all persons who are less than eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry.

2. Sponsor

The Contest is sponsored by the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition (“the Sponsor”).

3. Agreement to Official Rules

Participation in the Contest constitutes an entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final and binding.

Winning a prize is contingent upon being compliant with these Official Rules and fulfilling all other requirements set forth herein.

4. Contest Period

The Contest begins on January 15, 2015 at 12am Pacific Time and ends on March 31, 2015 at 11:59pm Pacific Time (“the Contest Period”). Entries submitted before or after the Contest Period will be disqualified.

5. How to Enter

To enter, the entrant must submit an original essay (500-1,000 words) or an original artistic piece (any medium) that represents the entrant’s answer to the following question:

"How would you envision a world in which people's diets are plant-based, and what impacts would this have on our planet?"
The winning projects will consider the benefits of eating more plant-based foods and less animal-based foods (including, but not limited to, impacts on human health, animals, workers, and the environment), and explore ways that we can help achieve this transition.

Essay entries must be sent to info@ffacoalition.org as a .doc or .odt file with “Contest Submission” in the subject line.

Digital art files or photos of physical art pieces must be sent to info@ffacoalition.org with “Contest Submission” in the subject line.

All entries must include the entrant’s full name, email address, and phone number. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be returned.

6. Selection of Winners

The Sponsor will select a panel of five judges, who will choose the winners and runners up in each category, by a majority vote.  The judges’ decisions are final and binding.

7. Prizes

A grand prize winner will be chosen for each category (essay and artistic piece), for a total of two grand prize winners. Each grand prize winner will be awarded a check in the amount of $1,000.00.

A runner up will be chosen for each for each category, for a total of two runners up. Each runner up will be awarded a prize package.

The Sponsor will post the grand prize winners’ and runners up’s essays and artistic pieces on the Sponsor’s website.

8. Winner Notification

The Sponsor will notify the potential grand prize winners and runners up by email and/or telephone by April 15, 2015.  If a potential winner cannot be contacted or does not respond to claim his or her prize within five (5) days of notification, the potential winner forfeits the prize and an alternate winner will be chosen by the Sponsor.

9. General Conditions

No purchase is necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning.

All federal, state, local, and municipal laws and regulations apply. Void where prohibited.

In the event that the operation, security, or administration of the Contest is impaired in any way for any reason, or in the event the Contest is unable to run as planned for any other reason, as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion, the Sponsor may either (a) suspend the Contest to address the impairment and then resume the Contest in a manner that best conforms to the spirits of these Official Rules or (b) terminate the Contest. The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner.

10. Release and Limitations of Liability

By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to release and hold harmless the Sponsor, and any related companies/organizations, from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use of any resultant prize.

11. Disputes

Except where prohibited, each entrant agrees that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of, or connected with, the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without any resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the appropriate court located in California. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, entrants’ rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of California, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules, which would cause the application of laws of any jurisdiction other than California.

12. Privacy

Information collected from entrants is subject to Sponsor’s privacy policy.
